No Appointment Necessary
An appointment is NOT REQUIRED for any X-ray, musculoskeletal ultrasound (Hip, Hamstring, Knee, Achilles Tendon, Ankle, Foot, Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist etc.) and certain general ultrasound (Scrotal/testicular Ultrasound, Thyroid Ultrasound, Breast Ultrasound, etc.). If preparation is not required for an ultrasound examination, an appointment is also not required for the same examination. Please call 416-264-4343 before walking-in for these tests during clinic hours to confirm the availability of a time slot and save time.
Appointment Necessary
An appointment IS REQUIRED for general ultrasound (Abdomen Ultrasound, Pelvic Ultrasound, Prostate-Transrectal Ultrasound, etc.) and obstetrical ultrasound (Dating, Biophysical profile etc.). If preparation is required for an ultrasound examination, an appointment is also required for the examination.
An appointment may be needed if you prefer ultrasound or x-ray service in a language other than English, French, Tamil, Urdu, Hindi or Malayalam.

Cost of Your Test
Your medical test is covered by OHIP, if you have OHIP coverage. Otherwise, please inform us and we will let you know the cost of ultrasound or x-ray test. For the rare cases of non-converage, we accept only cash as method of payment. We do not accept debit cards and credit cards.
Requisition Slip
A doctor's requisition slip is required for an ultrasound test.
A doctor's requisition slip is required for an x-ray test.

You can use the requisition from your doctor, for another clinic or hospital, to get your studies done at King-Mar. You don't have to attend the hospital or Ultrasond/X-ray place named in the requisition.
On the Day of Your Appointment
Please follow the preparation instructions, bring your valid health card and requisition slip.

General X-ray

No preparation required
Abdomen Ultrasound

Eat a fat free dinner the night before your appointment
-
No dairy products or fried foods
-
No carbonated drinks 12 hours before your appointment

Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before
-
Do not eat breakfast
Pelvis Ultrasound (All Types)
-
Drink 4-5 glasses (or 2 small bottles) of clear fluid (water, juice, black coffee or black tea) one hour before your appointment time

Do not void - A full bladder is necessary for the examination

No fasting necessary
Abdomen and Pelvis Ultrasound Together

Obstetrical Ultrasound

For less than 12 weeks: Drink 4-5 glasses (or 2 small bottles) of clear fluid (water, juice, black coffee or black tea) 1 hour before your appointment time. You must eat breakfast or lunch

For 12-18 weeks: Drink 2 glasses (or 1 small bottle) of clear fluid (water, juice, black coffee or black tea) 1 hour before your appointment time. You must eat breakfast or lunch

For over 18 weeks: No preparation is required. You must eat breakfast or lunch
Nuchal Translucency/Early Anatomy Ultrasound

Drink 3 glasses (or 1.5 small bottles) of clear fluid (water, juice, black coffee or black tea) 1 hour before your appointment time

You must bring all the papers given by your doctor (blood work, requisition, I.P.S. Screening paper, etc.) with you to your appointment
Prostate-Transrectal Ultrasound

Purchase a fleet enema from the pharmacy and follow the instructions in the package

Self-administer the enema 2 hours before your appointment time

Drink 4-5 glasses (or 2 small bottles) of clear fluid (water, juice, black coffee or black tea) 1 hour before your examination

Do not void - A full bladder is necessary for the examination
Scrotal/Testicular/Thyroid/Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
